Call for Mentees: IITRAAN Outreach Programme, March 2023

Introduction: IIT Roorkee has been alma mater for over 500 Nepalese professionals serving both in Nepal and abroad. This strong contingent of alumni has been contributing in their respective fronts in a meaningful way, often in key positions, and many of them praised for their excellent professional services. In order to utilize this high caliber technical human capital, IIT Roorkee Alumni Association Nepal (IITRAAN) chapter has created an Outreach Programme (OrP).

Mentorship scheme is first such initiative of IITRAAN OrP, under which a group of young technical professionals (mentees) shall be empowered and groomed to become successful in their professional career. Mentoring is recognized as one of the powerful learning processes in which a mentor supports a mentee who is normally in his/her early years of career development and/or seeking entrepreneurial knowledge/skills to attain professional goals. In essence, mentoring complements individuals in their nascent stage of the career or in a new project to extract the best performance in them in achieving their chosen goals in an effective manner.

Mentors: IITRAAN has recently prepared, among its members, a group of mentors by organizing a training-workshop to provide them with a unified guideline on what and how to run the mentoring process, as well as related skills in managing the mentoring sessions with the mentees. The roster of current mentors are listed along with their respective profiles in our website: www.iitraan.org

Expected profile of mentees and admission process: A mentee participating in the mentorship scheme should have at least either completed or in his/her final year of bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (or related discipline) and have a strong desire to learn, proactively and systematically engage with the mentor, and value the time and efforts that would be spared in the process.

Mentees willing to benefit from this opportunity are requested to send in their applications to mail@iitraan.org with a recent CV as well as a paragraph highlighting their expectations from this scheme. Admissions are free and will be entertained on a rolling basis, and a mentor will be matched and assigned by the IITRAAN OrP team based on the profile of the applicant. Mentoring sessions are expected to run for a period of six to nine months depending on the learning goals that will be discussed and agreed between a mentor and a mentee in the beginning of the session.

Disclaimer: This mentorship scheme is solely to guide a mentee’s journey through professional growth and development and as such, in no way, guarantees a mentee exact outcome of the future results and professional success after its completion. Each mentee’s learning process is unique and his/her success depends on each individual’s personal traits, dedication, desires and motivation.
