IIT Roorkee Alumni Association Nepal
Our alma mater is our pride. Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, founded in the year 1847 as the Roorkee College of Engineering and renamed as Thomason College of Engineering in 1854 AD was elevated to become the University of Roorkee in 1949, and finally joined the IIT Council in 2001 AD as one of the Institutes of National Importance. Known to be the premier technical academic institution, setting the path of academic excellence in the domain of engineering education in the region, it has also been the alma mater for some 500 Nepalese.
IIT Roorkee Alumni Association Nepal (IITRAAN) chapter has come to being in 1997 when a group of alumni foresaw the greater benefit of nurturing the relationship among graduates of the University of Roorkee and exchange knowledge for the promotion of professional development of engineers in Nepal.

Dear Fellow Alumni,
It is with great pleasure that I extend this message to all Nepalese IIT Roorkee Alumni currently living and working all over the globe. As we look forward to our grand reunion on October 24-25 this year, I invite you to join us with your family for a celebration of our shared legacy, camaraderie, and the enduring spirit of our esteemed alma mater.
IIT Roorkee is more than an institute; it is a symbol of excellence, innovation, and a commitment to making the world a better place. With a history spanning more than 175 years, traversing a steady path of transformation from the first engineering college established in 1847 as Roorkee College changed to Thomason College of Engineering in 1853, becoming University of Roorkee in 1949 and subsequently attaining the current form of IIT Roorkee in 2001 we are proud to be part of such a glorious institution that has shaped the careers and lives of countless engineers and leaders including ourselves, a close to 500 Nepali engineers, who graduated from IITR in the past 125 years in different disciplines and served humanity in different capacity and in different geography. Our values are greatly influenced by the core value of IITR: श्रमं विना न किमपि साध्यम्, which translates: nothing can be achieved without hard work. As alumni, we carry this legacy with us, and now, more than ever, we have the opportunity to give back to our community, our society, and our nation.
The reunion is not just a time to reconnect with old friends and reminisce about the good times—it is also a chance to harness our collective energy for the greater good. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on the development of our motherland, contributing our skills, knowledge, and resources to drive positive change. Whether through mentorship, volunteering, or collaborative projects, there is a role for each of us to play in building a brighter future for our future generation.
