Announcement: Mentorship Training-Workshop on 18 December 2022.

Background: Coinciding with the commemoration of IIT Roorkee’s 175th years of distinguished services, IIT Roorkee Alumni Association Nepal (IITRAAN) chapter has launched an Outreach Programme (OrP) with the aim of utilizing a strong pool of its competent and experienced technical human capital. This platform offers an opportunity to those alumni who would be interested in sharing valuable professional experiences and services as well as financial resources as a part of the responsibility to giving back to the society for the cause of nation’s building.

Mentoring programme is the first such initiative of IITRAAN OrP, under which a group of young technical professionals (mentees) shall be empowered and groomed to become successful in their professional career. In essence, mentoring complements individuals in their nascent stage of the career or in a new project to extract the best performance in them in achieving their chosen goals in an effective manner. In order to launch this initiative, IITRAAN is organizing a one-day training-workshop for potential and interested mentors among its members, which will be conducted by a professional coach. Mentors participating in the programme, besides having the first-hand experience, knowledge and skills in a chosen field, should have a keen interest to helping mentees and have dedication, flexibility and willingness to spare extra time, if needed.

One- day training-workshop – Empowering mentors: The one-day workshop will be conducted for some 15-20 IITRAAN members with many years of professional field experience, who will then form the roster of mentors under the IITRAAN mentoring program. The primary objective of the workshop is to prepare the mentors through a unified guideline on what and how to run the mentoring process, and related skills in managing the mentoring sessions with the mentees, thus helping them to understand the finer nuances of being a mentor. A one day training-workshop will be conducted in an engaging manner that will encourage the participants to contribute to the discussion and will address the following:

1. Challenges that engineered the need for mentorship
2. Understanding the difference between a teacher, coach and a mentor
3. Why should mentees join a mentorship program?
4. Why to become a mentor?
5. Mentorship policies
6. How to conduct mentoring sessions
7. Monitoring and Evaluation
8. Exit
9. Eligibility and requirement for mentors and mentees

Training-Workshop Plan: The proposed date for the day long training-workshop is on 18 December 2022, venue to be communicated later. The participants are expected to arrive at the location by 0830 am and the programme will be concluded by 0430 pm, including lunch and a tea-break. In order to cover the cost of the resource person, venue and food, the participants are expected to contribute Rs 8500.- per person. IITRAAN members willing to participate in this training-workshop and be included in the roster of mentors shall send their names and contact details (phone and email) to mail@iitraan.org , before December 09, 2022.
